MLB American League East – 2008 Predictions
Okay, with spring already in the swing (bad pun), it is a good time to set some early, early season predictions. I always think it is cool to see how you think teams will fair at the beginning of the season and then see how they actually mature. So, here are my American League East predictions.
1.) New York Yankee’s – Yes, I am selecting the Yankees to capture the division and win the American League pennant. A lot of people say this is a safe prediction, while many others will scoff at it. I think the new leader in the dugout is going to payoff for the Yankees. I’m already hearing how Joe G is showing his ability to communicate at a different level. Believe me, there is no disrespect to Joe T. I think he has done a great job, but as with everything else, sometimes change is positive if it has been carefully planned out.
2.) Boston Red Sox’s – I think the pressure of being a winner is going to have it’s toll on this team. This pressure will begin to roll over into the clubhouse. No real facts for this, just an intuition I sense from watching the Sox’s the other day. The expectations of the fans is going to be overwhelming, especially when all of Boston is still feeling the pain of the Super Bowl.
3.) Tampa Bay Ray’s – Big surprise on having the Ray’s this high on the list. This is going to be an exciting team this year. Off season acquisitions and with their system of promoting the youth is going to start to payoff. They have always been a killer for the Yankee’s and this season will be no different. If they could attack the Red Sox’s the same way, I think they could even be number 2.
4.) Toronto Blue Jay’s – No surprise here with a team that has no bullpen. Pretty decent offense but other than that this is going to be a tough year for the Jay’s.
5.) Baltimore Oriole’s – No pitching, no big bats. What has happen to this organization? Since Ripkin retired, they keep heading down to the bottom of the league. Anything better than fifth in this division would be bonus points for this organization.
